My idea of art at the beginning of the semester was very broad. I had a broad idea that everything was art and that art could be effortless. My idea of this has changed quite a bit. I now believe that art has to involve some sort of effort going into it. A piece of artwork needs a creator that had a certain intent when making this piece of art.

My major is mechanical engineering. With this major I hope to be able to either design various parts for a company or work my way up to negotiating sales based on those different products. Art and design are related to my major because we need to use 3D design programs to be able to design and create various parts for machinery. This aspect of engineering is super important to me in specific because it’s what I find most interesting in the whole field.

Art could bring a lot of pleasure to me later in life. When I was younger I was brought to a lot of different art museums, but I didn’t have a real appreciation for them while I was there. Now that I’ve taken this class, I will do more research about each piece of art and the artist behind it. Knowing background on the artist and artwork gives more perspective to each one. I believe that to become closer and closer to a complete human being, you must be informed and have perspective from everyone. Art is a perfect way to gain both of these.

Yes, art is significantly important. Art is forever. Art helps preserve the past and show everyone’s perspective. There would be no creativity in the world if all art, artists, and artistic impulse disappeared. There would be no evidence from the past or no way for people to express how they feel outside of just words.

I agree with the statement “a great nation deserves great art.” A great nation is successful in all aspects. Their economy should be flourishing, people should be happy, and art should be able to represent all of that accurately.

This art class has been an eye-opener for me. I thought art was boring and just paint on a canvas. I never had to explore the deeper meaning of the artworks or look more into the artists that painted the picture. I’m looking forward to my line of work where I can incorporate some of the design that I had to use in this class.
